The Bird House High Res-12.jpg

bird house

Situated within dense landscape and constructed in 1993, this Donald Spencer gem has undergone several extensions and alterations however retained its charm and detailing true to its original design.

The brief for this renovation was to essentially double the internal area of the house, adding two bedrooms, bathrooms, retaining the existing kitchen and extending the living spaces and deck on the south.

With the house being perched almost fifteen metres from the ground, the extension preserves the building’s principal form and panoramic views to the bushland beyond as well as its opportunity for natural light and ventilation. Materials utilised referenced original design decisions and detailing to preserve as much of the character of Spencer’s design as possible.
