Northside Special School GLA
Situated at the northern end of an established school campus, a new general learning centre is proposed for a special school on the Northside of Brisbane catered for a growing student population. The two storey building is organised following a central corridor, feeding into a total of 14 classrooms, associated collaborative and storage spaces, staff room as well as sensory and therapy rooms alongisde student amenities. Along this central spine, high level windows facing south capture light and allow for natural ventilation, creating a pleasant and bright circulation pathway.
The building references the existing campus’ material composition, allowing the new addition to seemlessly integrate within the campus fabric. With a neutral base palette as requested by the school, colour is injected subtly through doors and pinboards internally. Externally, face brick, face blockwork and metal sheeting is complemented by coloured awnings as well as landscape elements as part of a significant upgrade to the play area.
