Beenleigh Special School GLA

Initiated by the Queensland Government’s Department of Education, a new multi-storey classroom building has emerged through a collaborative process of direct communication with the school community, staff, students, and parents in responding to the needs of a special school on the southside of Brisbane.

12 new classrooms, break-out areas, specialist amenities, student therapy rooms, and staff spaces have been designed to cater for an expanding student population. Splashes of colour within the classrooms and its surrounding learning spaces aim to spark creativity, illuminating the learning environment, and enhance student friendly spaces of nurture and growth.

Connectivity with adjacent buildings is enhanced through soft landscaping elements creating a more coherent connection from one space to the other. Perforated screens adopted in various locations heighten visual connection, and a redefinition of circulation between buildings integrate and unify the campus as a whole.
