Our first State School project almost complete

The first of five school projects under construction this year is nearing completion. The new multi-storey learning facility will include 16 classrooms, amenities and staff facilities. We look forward to sharing some photos when it is complete later this month.

Congratulations to Wiley Construction who were nominated by the Australian Construction Awards (ACA) for their Health and Safety Solution in delivering this project. You can see a video below of their efforts in helping the school children understand the safety procedures during construction.

Cornwall Street project breaks ground

The Cornwall Street project in Woolloongabba broke ground this week. Designed for BHC and built by Stokes Wheeler, the new affordable rental housing will provide 32 apartments for youth and key workers. This development is the first to be constructed under the Queensland Government’s Partnering for Growth initiative.

Located on a small yet prominent site, the 9 storey apartment building will include a mix of studio and one bedroom apartments, designed to respond to the Brisbane City Council’s ‘Building’s that Breathe’ design guidelines.

BHC’s Rebecca Oelkers and Eloise Atkinson, were joined by the Hon. Jackie Trad MP, Deputy Premier and Treasurer, the Hon. Mick de Brenni, Minister for Housing and Public Works and Annemaree Callander from Brisbane Youth Service for the sod turning.

We encourage you to visit the BHCL website for the inspirational video about the tenants in the building.

Enduring Scarpa

During a recent trip to Italy, I finally visited Carlo Scarpa’s Brion Tomb. The quality of off form concrete achieved in this monument in the small country town of Altivole reminds us why Italians were dubbed as the best concrete craftsmen of the modern era.

Historic Hanoi

As development progresses at a rapid rate in Hanoi, the city’s heritage buildings are fighting demolition. The juxtaposition between old and new is not always successful, but in this example, the glass box neighbour to the heritage facade is complimentary.

Takstang is Bhutan’s most famous temple and simply breathtaking (physically and spiritually).
